There are four main ones when it comes to blood type and those are type A (Agrarian), type B (Bavarian), Type O (Original hunter) and type AB, which is the most common one and it has the strongest immune system.
Apart from all of these, there are more than 400 blood type subcategories and they all depend on the person’s profile, health, and lifestyle.

The Rh factor is very important when it comes to blood system groups. The first one is ABO. This one is composed out of 50 defined blood-group antigens. The most important ones are D, C, c, E, e.
The Rh factor can be RH Positive, RH Negative, only applying to the D antigen.
RH positive has the D antigen, whereas the RH negative does not.
Pregnant Women Can Suffer From Rh Factor Changes
- Hemolytic Disease- collapse of red blood cells
- Erythroblastosis Fetalis- creating unripe red blood cells in the fetus
The is what usually happens when the father’s blood type is not compatible with the mom’s. In a case one of them is Rh-negative and the other one positive.
So, the mother can be injected with RhoGAm or Rho (D) which is made from blood plasma, at 28 weeks of gestation within 72 hours after giving birth.
Therefore, this will be able to prevent the growth of antibodies from the mother’s body to the fetus. The injection has Rh-positive blood which will prevent the development of antibodies which can cause harm to the fetus.
Blood Types and Transfusions
- AB can receive blood from all types, but it can only give to AB.
- A can receive blood from type A or O, but only give to A or AB.
- B can receive from type B or O but only give to B or AB.
- O can receive from O only, but it can give to all the other types.
There are also so-called universal donors which are people who have the O RH D negative blood type. Also, there are those with type AB RH D positive and they are universal recipients.
Plasma Compatibility
- AB can receive plasma from AB, but give to all the other blood types.
- A can receive plasma from A and AB, but donate only to A and O.
- B can receive plasma from B and AB and only give to B and O.
- O is the universal receiver, but it can only donate to O.
The plasma of the blood type O has anti-A and anti-B bodies which can be only donated to O recipients. However, AB plasma can be donated to all types due to the fact that it has neither anti-A nor anti-B antibodies.
